Here is the programme from the FA Cup replay against Newcastle United on February 6th 1915. Having beaten Blackburn 1-0 at home in the 1st Round proper, and drawn 1-1 at Newcastle, the Swans succumbed 0-2 at the Vetch. They were still a Southern League Second Division club in only their 2nd season.
The “Your Country Needs You” advert for military recruitment on the back cover is a stark reminder that the 1st World War was raging. Conscription had not yet been introduced, but there was a lot of public opinion calling for football to be suspended and for players to enlist.
The programme is in Gwyn Rees’ collection.
