My funniest moment

I thought that I would share one of my funniest moments at the Vetch. It took place when we played Locomotive Leipzig in the Cup Winners Cup on 16th September 1981. I was standing in my usual spot on the North Bank next to a gentleman who was on crutches due to, what looked like, a broken ankle.

Even though it was more than 30 years ago, I can clearly remember one of the opposition players being fairly tackled very close to the touchline and rolling over and over in pretend agony. The North Bank crowd started shouting for him to get up and stop acting. The gentleman on crutches took this further and threw one of his crutches over the fence at the same time shouting “have this………..you need it more than I do” or words to that effect!

I’m sure that today he would get a lengthy ban and the club would receive a hefty fine but the linesman, who had a big grin on his face, just picked the crutch up and handed it to a steward who passed it back over the fence.

A priceless moment among many from the good old days of the Vetch Field.

Regards,

David Bevan from Gorseinon.
